Play of the Day: The President Knows How To Build Anticipation

Trump tweeted three times about his Supreme Court pick before his prime time TV announcement.

A heat wave has hit the United States, leaving thousands without power in their homes and businesses. Conan O'Brien joked about the news, saying that people without power in the U.S. are called Democrats.

President Donald Trump announced Brett Kavanaugh as his pick to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court on Monday in prime time on all the major networks. Trump also tweeted three times over the weekend, presumably, to build anticipation for the event, including one tweet that said "I have long heard that the most important decision a U.S. President can make is the selection of a Supreme Court Justice," prompting Jimmy Kimmel to joke that "I have long heard" really means "I saw it on Fox and Friends this morning." Late Show's Stephen Colbert joked about a report indicating the Trump consulted with Fox News host Sean Hannity on the pick, noting that Ronald Reagan consulted with another TV star in the 1980s: ALF.
